General Professional Studies (GPS)
General Professional Studies (GPS) sessions will introduce you to the knowledge, understanding and skills which you will need to become an outstanding teacher. They will cover a variety of essential topics such as planning, classroom management, behaviour management and assessment, but will also consider more unusual areas such as voice projection and body language.
The GPS sessions are delivered throughout your training. Some are grouped into blocks of centre-based training at NTTP in Induction or Review Weeks. Others are delivered during your school placements as part of Monday afternoon sessions at NTTP. One important part of GPS from October to March is a behaviour management course provided online by Pivotal Education.
The sessions are delivered by the Programme Facilitators and other experienced teachers within the partnership who have specific expertise in that area. GPS sessions will help you meet the Teachers’ Standards in the process of working towards achieving Qualified Teacher Status.
The GPS programme is adjusted according to the needs of the trainee group, so you will receive more details prior to each set of sessions.
