Centre based training weeks
The course comprises of a number of training sessions based at the host school, Northampton School for Boys. These training weeks cover a number of other essential areas of the course including some General Professional Studies sessions.
Induction Weeks (mid September)
As the name implies the purpose of this 3 week period is to give trainees information, techniques and training so that they are fully prepared to go into schools and begin being trained by their School Based Tutors. From the start of the course in September, trainees will receive an intensive induction programme of sessions, covering a variety of key introductory sessions: Lesson Planning, Accountability, Meeting the Teaching Standards, Good Practice Observations and Behaviour Management. They will also meet with their Lead Subject Mentor (LSM) so that teaching targets can be set for Placement 1.
Review Fortnight (start of February)
The purpose of this fortnight amongst other things is to look back at your first placement and to provide you with additional training for your second placement.
Exam Week (end of June)
During this final week of the course, you will hold meetings with the Programme Facilitators to finalise your Career Entry Development Profile. Final checks are also made by our external examiner to ensure that you have all the required evidence to gain your Qualified Teacher Status.
We ask placement schools not to timetable you on a Monday afternoon as we reserve these for General Professional Studies sessions. sessions which look more specifically at the academic rigour of the profession.
