School Experience Programme
School experience is essential if you are interested in becoming a teacher. Before you apply for teacher training, you need to gain experience in the classroom to strengthen your application and prepare you for potential interviews or to simply decide whether the teaching profession is right for you.
The School Experience Programme is available to potential trainees who have registered with the Department for Education on their Get Into Teaching website. It offers the chance to observe teaching and pastoral work, and the opportunity to talk to teachers about day-to-day life in a school.
Only when registered with the DfE, will you then be able to register for a 1 day school experience at Northampton School for Boys. On this day, you will have the opportunity to see a range of different lessons and age groups being taught, be able to talk to experienced and recently qualified teachers and learn a little more about the application process onto a teacher training programme for a small fee.
After this initial visit, additional days may be possible for a small fee which would be refunded if a place was then successfully gained on one of our ITT programmes. Where possible, during these additional days, we will look to tailor your experience to meet any specific needs that you may have.
For the academic year 2020/21, the priority subjects that will be included in the School Experience Programme are:
Science, English, Geography, History, Maths, Modern Foreign Languages, Music, Physical Education and Religious Education.
Please check on the DfE website for further eligibility criteria that apply.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if the subject you are interested in teaching is not listed above as we may be able to accommodate this too.
